Chromadepth Series by Tristan Burfield

In this exhibition I have created a series of colourful psychedelic 3-d photographic experiments which explore the external depth of the photographic canvas as an alternative to the defacto aestheic of the flat print.

All images were created using photoshop in conunction with software packages such as Fractint, Ultrafractal and Visions of Chaos

The exhibition is to be used in conjunction with "Chromadepth" 3-d glasses [available on site] which produce a stereoscopic effect based upon differences in the diffraction of colour through a special prism-like holographic film fitted into glasses.

Chromadepth glasses give the illusion of colours taking up different positions in space, with red being in front and blue being in back.

I am an amateur photographer in my senior years. I live in Essex and most of my photos are taken around Essex and the Suffolk/Norfolk borders.

I started my love of photography with film cameras and could not wait to get my pictures back, with some OH YES or OH DEAR ME, but now it is digital and I love it. I use Canon equipment which I like and now edit and print all my pictures on the computer. I like to take a shot and then turn it into the picture I want to achieve with a crop and edit here and there. I hope you enjoy my first exhibition and thank you for looking.

Artists Personal Statement

"Although I am a discreet and semi-reclusive sort of person, there is a side to me that loves boldness and so called 'eccentricity'. I admire people who casually walk down a high street wearing oversized brightly coloured clothes and rainbow DM's, and safety-pinned Goth's with white faces & black stilt shoes, or someone who has the nerve to paint their house purple amongst a row of buff white walled houses. I once saw a man walking along the main road in Felixstowe wearing a huge Panama hat and I remember how much I admired his boldness."

THE ARTIST’s STATEMENT

Paintings and sculpture showed from 2nd - 30th July

I started in Art late after following various career paths. Covering The Royal Navy, Retail Management & as a Nurse.

I have however had a longstanding interest in photography which led me indirectly in to drawing and painting, along with other areas of Art and Art related subjects. Thanks to a short period of study at The Colchester School of Art and design, that I left early.

This exhibition is a celebration of colour that is made in Acrylic paint, while it is in modernistic styles it is not based on any particular form or Artistic style. just me and the interaction between me, the paints and the canvas. At that one moment in time the exceptions to this are the blue figures and the crater city sunset.

Interview

Q: How did you start Joe?

A: 2-3 years ago doing photography. I went down to the institute to develop this. They pointed me in the direction of drawing, portfolio, presentation and I became hooked on painting drawing which led me into print making and 3D art.

Q: Do you have a particular idea when you work?

A: Not always, mostly not I sit & let the work develop. When I found out art wasn't all about conventional ideas, its more a reaction between the artist & his work & how he/she feels.

Q: They’re intuitive works aren't they? have you ever come across a different view?

A: not personally but there are some in the pres –there are certain who think Modern art is a waste of space, but there is another feeling and emotion that goes into the work. I’m going to repeat something that I did about a year ago. Te starting time is the first world war and brought up to the present date, and that just goes to show that over the past century, man hasn’t learned a dam thing.

Q: You’re talking about war. Instillation work is probably better received.

A: Yes it is a reactive work, probably to something that going on at the time. i.e. the VAF.

Butterfly Lodge

Farm Shop, Dairy, Cafe & Post Office

On–farm dairy production. Warren & Ellie met whilst studying

their degrees at Leeds University in 2000. They made the

decision to build & run their own small farm. They set about

creating 'Butterfly Lodge' in Abberton near Colchester. They

had the vision of expanding the long-established goat herd

started by Ellie’s parents & grand parents and diversifying into

'on-farm dairy production and processing'.
