My work is a culmination of many different skills I have used over the years.
A background in theatre costume, hand made corsetry and macro wildlife photography all influence my work. Every texture speaks to me in a different way.
I moved in to corsetry as I liked the idea of bringing structure and form to fabrics.
I enjoy working with fabrics in unexpected ways and wire has become an important part of my process showing form and structure.
As I work with the materials, new techniques and ideas develop which helps the piece evolve in to it's final state. My work currently centres on an exploration of the fragility, chaotic flight and transformations that butterflies go through, and how those mirror the different transformations and fragile times we experience in our own lives.
I explore these themes using wire, fibre and textiles to create textured sculptural relief work on canvas.
On www.visitengland.com County Councillor Jeremy Lucas, Cabinet Member for Environment and Culture says "Marvelling at the complexity of this work will bring about a renewed apprerciation for the intricacy of the natural world around us.
Hope you enjoy the show
Patricia Sheldon Hicks.
