Ace Comics Original Artwork and Prints

A selection of Original Artwork and Limited Edition Cover Art Prints from the world of Marvel Comics, fantasy and science fiction.

This show is a selection from the private collection of Nigel Blaike, an affiliate of Our Culver St neighbors, Ace Comics.

Mr Blaike has chosen work he considers 'suitable for viewing at Level Best' from his vast collection, gathered over the years from comicS conventions and art sales.

Many of the works are highly valued and sought after but to help our cause he has reduced his usual prices. So if you are a comics fan and would also like a bargain, definately consider viewing the work closer up (as the below photos do not do it justice)

NOLAN BARCLAY

The hidden world of the microscopic takes us into another universe, which I have always had a fascination with since very young. This show follows my creativity in new organic art forms which lie somewhere between future realities in nano-technology, genetic cells and other emerging boundaries of science and technology.
Coming from a graffiti background I have always liked to use spray cans, airbrushes and acrylics in my art to give it unique colours, effects and patterns. As a person with a high imagination I am always finding new art forms and extract ideas from photographs taken in nature.
I have lots of influences from nature: physics, biology - plants and old masters in painting and airbrush.
Meta physics is a new area I am looking into as well as Aztec art forms. My future art explorations will look into synthetic biology, 3d printing, self replication machines and the designing of synthetic DNA, which could be governed by different laws, different materials and principles to which we do not understand.
Could our world be entering a spiritual world of wickedness in high places? or could we be entering a new dawn of machine enchanted spirituality and life styles which change our beliefs and faiths or challenge our ideas of who we are as a species. A new spiritual warfare of grind technologies, genetics, robotics, artificial intelligence and nano-technology as we become a new species of techno-sapiens.
Nolan Barclay –futurist.

Tethered - Brendan Wilson

Tethered

I have become accustomed to the well-trodden paths of our lesiure walks. Not for me wild, remote and inhospitable places, but rather a walk with a cafe at the end of it.

I really am of the 21st century. I embrace the secure landscape, not rejecting what has evolved. for it is still wild and free no matter how ordered and planned.

The immediacy of our connection with the natural world cannot be broken, as we crave it as a place of peace, solace and healing. We harness its power and yet it remains beyond us. However domesticated it is still primeval.

From garden flowers to a setting sun to a field of cows we are all tethered to it.

Brendan Wilson

Brendan Wilson has worked as a photographer for over 20 years, between times as a house husband and carer. He has had many exhibitions, notably at the Museum of London, the Watershed, Bristol and the Islington Arts Factory. he has made a documentary for the BBC and has had two books of photographs published.

He exhibited a collection of street photographs at the Digby gallery in Colchester in March 2012 and at a group show at Slackspace in 2011. He studied for a degree at University campus Suffolk, graduating in 2010 and lives in Lawford, Essex.

The is the first time that a collection of his landscapes has been exhibited in one place.

Level Best Art Cafe Easter Auction

Welcome to the Level Best Easter Auction. The show is comprised of 33 images each painted by a different trainee of Artco. The bidding for each picture will begin at £5 and bids are made by sealed envelope. If you would like to reserve an image please email artcolevelbest@gmail.com

A little bit about the way we work in the Art Department (ArtCo).

We provide the tools such as blank canvases, acrylic paint, and brushes and let the energy flow.

I’m a great believer in not interfering….or interfering as little as possible. If I think that there is a lot of energy but no distinct idea of how to start making a picture, I offer a process like using a square or wedge shaped stencil to paint inside. If they then repeat this action, having chosen 3 or so colours, a form emerges which carries the energy with it and builds until there is an instinctive moment when the picture is finished.

Putting a background colour onto the canvas with a roller or a brush is also a good way to get rid of inhibitions, and make a start.

Providing a good atmosphere in the Art Department is important too. We work best in one free of

too much chatter, in a place where people can take their time and concentrate quietly. JRO, ArtCo.
